Back in July 2019, around the time that I resigned my 30-year day-job in IT, I had the thought: “How can I help even more people? How can I promote successful and healthy Low Carb Living to a wider audience?”
That thought wombled around a bit, gathered a few ideas and structures, collected a team of willing advisers eager to get this idea off of the ground… and then it pooltled off to the back of my brain, as these things do when your life throws more immediate priorities at you.
Luckily, this didn’t happen before I went and registered a domain for the project… https://lowcarbliving.uk
As you all know, I went all in on Low Carb in the UK on 25/10/2020, just after winning an award for Best Nutritional Coach & Mentor – London – so I spent the first half of my “Doing My Own Thing” time building relationships, my systems, content, courses and my 1:1 coaching client base.
And still the question niggled me; how can I help even more people than I’m able to help right now?
How can I get the very low investment Low Carb Living UK off the ground?
How can I do this whilst I’m still creating all the other bits of my new business?
Whist also navigating the whole new world that Covid season has brought us all?
I got myself in a bit of a tiz with it all. With the general stress and pressure that came at the start of Covid season, I, like so many others, got myself a “bit in the weeds” mentally and I spent a month or so not really doing much beyond “keeping the lights on” with the business and my own life.
So, what pushed me into action?
What gave me the final push back to act in August 2020 was the Govt. announcing that for the good of the nation and to defend the NHS, we must all “lose weight” (sic) and so it was decided that the “Cambridge Weight Plan” (AKA a very low calorie, highly processed soup and shake program, see the P.S.) would be extended to more people on the NHS.
That the govt. are seeking to “cure” a problem by using both more of the same faulty procedures at it that have not served the nation at all well since 1983 as well as promoting a highly processed junk-containing concoction is anathema to me.
So, this gave me the kick up the bum to get all the ideas together and push to launch a pilot program on 1st September 2020.
I’m very pleased to report that the 32 people that went through the pilot very much enjoyed the process and seeing their own successes, and the people that have joined us since then are also thriving.
We’ve seen
- many centimetres ditched by the members,
- health markers across the group much improved
- and much joy, love, accountability and support given both in the Facebook group and during the weekly support calls.

PS: If you are interested…
These are the ingredients for ultra-processed soups, shakes and bars offered by the “Cambridge weight plan”
The makers of this plan are private company Cambridge Nutritional Foods.
They showed its turnover as £48.7m in 2019 and pre-tax profits as £7.8m.
A statement signed off by the board said: “The group is confident of delivering double-digit growth in 2019/20.”
Given there is no actual food in their products, rather it is a highly processed set of cheap to throw together ingredients, that they are no doubt charging through the nose for, I’m not surprised at their profits…

I did Cambridge at the fine younger age of 18. I had a part time job in Claire’s Accessories over the summer. All I remember is being so light headed until I eventually fainted at the till whilst serving a customer. To think I visited some random woman’s living room and paid thorough the teeth for the pleasure astounds me.
I am so glad I found your group and have invested into my own physical and mental health regarding food and body image.
I would reccomend it to anyone!
Oh Kayleigh, That’s a horrid story. *hugs*
And thank you so much for the recommendation!
